Crimped Wire Mesh Applications – Screening, Guards, and Food Processing

Crimped wire mesh is woven from pre-crimped carbon steel, galvanized steel, or stainless steel wire. The crimped intersections hold the wires in position and help maintain the specified opening under screening conditions. It is mainly supplied for screening stone, gravel, aggregate, coal, and other bulk materials. Lighter specifications are also used for machine guards, workshop partitions, and ventilation panels.

Buyers should specify the clear aperture and wire diameter in millimetres. This avoids confusion between SWG, BWG and other wire-gauge systems.

Specifications

Materials: Carbon steel, galvanized steel or stainless steel

Manufacturing Method: Wire crimped before weaving

Opening: Square opening unless otherwise specified

Aperture Measurement: Clear distance between two adjacent wires

Specification Method: Clear aperture × wire diameter

Weave: Pre-crimped woven construction

Supply Form: Rolls or cut panels, depending on wire diameter and finished stiffness

Dimensions: Made according to the confirmed panel or roll size

Edges: Cut edges or finished edges by order

Required Order Details: Material, clear aperture, wire diameter, width, length, quantity and intended application

ASTM E2016 treats opening, wire diameter, weave and material as separate purchasing parameters. These items should appear individually on the order sheet.
