Thanks to its high gel strength, strong adhesion, good flexibility, and excellent temperature resistance, microcrystalline wax is primarily used as a grease thickener to form a framework that provides lubrication. Its dense, amorphous structure also creates a dynamic/static barrier to achieve sealing.‌‌

‌Lubrication: Microcrystalline wax does not function directly as a fluid lubricant but acts as a key thickener that adsorbs base oil to form a stable, semi-solid grease matrix. Its fine microcrystalline structure imparts excellent colloidal stability and mechanical shear stability to the grease, ensuring the formation of a durable oil film on the surfaces of friction pairs and reducing wear.

‌Sealing: Leveraging its high melt viscosity, low shrinkage upon cooling, and lack of a distinct melting point, it fills microscopic gaps to form a dense layer impermeable to water and air; its flexibility allows it to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction or slight deformation of components without brittle fracture, thereby maintaining seal integrity.‌‌
